The theme of this years Refugee Week is Healing.

Join us for supper supplied by the Social Enterprise ASRC Catering  whilst we hear the stories of three locals, each of whom have a story that continues beyond the trauma that uprooted their lives to bring them to a place of healing.

In 1992 Edita Mukjic fled war torn Sarajevo with two young children in a borrowed car with two bags and US$50 in her pocket.  Her husband stayed behind, trapped in the impenetrable siege.  Today, she resides in Balwyn having re-built a life from scratch.

Edita’s has recently returned to Sarajevo for a period to assist her ill mother-in-law.  She was interviewed before leaving and her story will be told via a Zoom recording.  Technology permitting, she will be answering questions live via our special Zoom link from Sarajevo.  We’ll have copies of her recently published acclaimed book which tells the tale of what she survived and how she managed to re-build a life here in Balwyn.
